Welcome to Earth!, the first collected edition
Resident Alien is the original comic book series published by Dark Horse on which the Syfy and later USA Network television series Resident Alien is based. The series was first released in 2012 and to date has a total of 34 volumes. All comics in the series are written by Peter Hogan and illustrated by Steve Parkhouse.
The television series Resident Alien is based loosely on material from the original comics, but makes many changes to the source material. Among other differences is that while in the television series the alien masquerading as Harry Vanderspeigle initially arrives on Earth with an agenda to destroy it, in the comics, he has no such agenda. Furthermore, at the outset of the comics, the alien has been living on Earth for a far greater period of time and thus lacks the outward social awkwardness displayed the alien of the television series.
The plot of the television series has continued to diverge greatly from the comics as it continues plot threads originated from the television series, though it still on occasion adapts material from the comics.
