The Lonely Man is the thirty-sixth episode of the science fiction comedy television series Resident Alien and the second episode of the fourth season. It premiered on June 13, 2025 on both USA Network and Syfy.

Synopsis[]

Harry and Asta work together to try and get something Harry desperately needs.

Plot[]

It is 52 years ago in Maine, in the lighthouse where the young Eleanor Wright lives her father, Howard. Howard sees a huge alien spaceship, which drops glowing green orbs into the water. One of them hits the sand on the beach.

Harry is in the car with Asta, Max and Sahar, fleeing from the Mantid who assumed his identity as Harry. He thinks to himself that humans have many flaws, among these being their pinky toes and their ability to lie to themselves. He thinks to himself that not being human, he doesn't have that flaw, even as he tells the others that he could have destroyed the Mantid if not for Asta pulling him out. She points out that he was in fact the first out. He says he doesn't know what happened, that he couldn't turn into his alien form. Sahar suggests the Greys may have placed an inhibitor in him. He dismisses it at first, but then admits she may be right, that they did have many opportunities for it.

Asta asks what they do now, that the Mantid knows they all know who he is now. Harry tells her that it's bad, that Mantids are very dangerous. He says she was smart to pretend she thought the Mantid was him, then realizes the truth - that she had no idea the Mantid wasn't actually him. "He looks just you!" she protests and he says that she's supposed to be his friend and it must be embarrassing for her. She tells him to grow up, that they have bigger problems, like keeping Max and Sahar safe. Just then, Harry's son Bridget speaks up, saying he will keep them safe. Harry vetoes the suggestion at first, but then gives in.

At the Hawthorne family home, Ben tells Kate that he never should have let Joseph see him, that he now knows who he is and where he lives. Kate tells him it's good, that if he comes, she can trap him, but Ben doesn't like the idea of being bait. Max arrives home. Kate asks just where he was and he asks if she even noticed he wasn't at dinner. Ben comments he did notice he had enough food for once and Kate laments Max being out with a killer alien on the loose.

Ben comments that he doubts Max is on the top of the abduction list. "They took you," notes Kate and Ben asks just what she means by that. She tells him they can't let their guard down, that they need to catch Joseph. Ben asks if they shouldn't leave this to Sheriff Mike and Deputy Liv, who are cops, but Kate tells him they can't tell them, that if they find Joseph first, they will lock him away and they won't get what they need about their baby. "Of course," Ben agrees, having a flash of himself wearing a Nixon mask, telling Liv this exact information. She asks if he has in fact told anyone and he says that Ben Hawthorne did not. She calls it weirdly specific. "I'm not a crook," he tells her.

On a laptop, Asta and D'arcy watch footage of the Hawthorne family home, where Kate is surrounded by glowing lights, telling the Greys that she does not have her baby, that she doesn't know where she is. Harry comes up, telling them that the orbs are from the Greys and that they're looking for the baby. Asta says that Kate at least doesn't know where the baby is and that maybe they'll stop, but Harry tells her they won't, that it's where the expression "Like a Grey with a baby" comes from. He says they should be talking about something more important: him, that he came from the moon and is thirsty and tired and needs a place to sleep. D'arcy tells him he can sleep on the couch. She notes his lack of alienness and asks if he's ticklish now, then tickles him. He laughs, pleading with her to stop. He tells her he's still alien, that he just needs real food. He drinks some milk, only to spit it out disgustedly. He insists he still loves it. He tells him he's going back to cabin to kill the Mantid. They tell him he'll get his butt kicked and he tells them they'll face his wrath.

That evening, Asta tells D'arcy that Daisy is safe on the Ute Reservation. "Safe, but sad," says D'arcy, that she misses her. Asta tells her she's fine, but she says she should go other. Harry comes in, telling them he doesn't want to sleep on the couch, that he's cold. Asta tosses him a blanket. D'arcy gets up, saying she's going to go check on Daisy, but Asta lays her back down. She tells her that she was so desperate to feel special that she went on a suicide mission. D'arcy agrees this was dumb. She says Daisy has nothing to do with it, but Asta tells her that taking care of the baby made her feel special and she wants to feel that way again. D'arcy tells her the word is "critical" and Asta says that she's critical there, that it's a bad idea to go see her with the Mantid after them. D'arcy agrees she will stay awake for Daisy's sake and Harry appears, naked, asking them to check for Grey inhibitors. They shout at him to go away. Harry is disturbed by a creaking noise. There is a rustling, and he worries that it is the Mantid. He tells himself he has nothing to fear. He chants that he is a strong alien. There is a clattering and he rushes into Asta and Darcy's room.

Asta examines a patient at the Patience Health Clinic and hears music being played. Suddenly, a man enters the examination area playing a violin. Next to him appears Joseph, singing "La donna e mobile." Asta tells him he can't be there, asking what he's doing. Ellen Cho then appears. She tells Asta she thought about stopping them, but then thought it'd be funnier if she didn't. Joseph apologizes, telling her that he can see she's busy, but he wanted to do this right way. He gets down one knee and proposes. Asta is floored and asks if he's insane. She tells him they're not getting married and asks Ellen to complete the exam as she has a private chat with Joseph. She tells him that they were never a thing, that they sometimes had sex. He tells her it means something where he comes from, that he was sneaking around to see her and that she was using him for his body. He tells her that he gets it, leaving and telling her that maybe she is the one who's only half-human.
